When treating hemorrhoids in Kiev Regional Hospital dept. of Proctology we can choose any possible method from entire range of existing therapeutic options. It should be noted that the vacuum ligation of hemorrhoids & transanal hemorrhoidal dearterialization (THD) where first introduced in Ukraine by the department of Proctology of Kiev Regional Hospital. Therefor we have the most experience of using those methods in treatment of chronic hemorrhoids.

Our approaches to treating an anal fissure depend on the stage and duration of the disease. Acute anal fissures are well exposed to conservative therapy - a positive effect is observed in 65-70% of patients. Chronic anal fissures are much worse exposed to conservative therapy, so surgical treatment (fissure excision with fractional sphincterotomy) is often the method of choice.

On the basis of our department of proctology there is a clinic of oncosurgery (Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, the head of the clinic - Prof. Sorokin B.V., PhD), which significantly affects the quality and range of medical care, provided to oncologic patients. Our doctors-proctologists perform the entire spectrum of colonic surgery (sigmoidectomy, hemiclectomy, resection of the lumbar-colon, subtotal resection of the colon, colproctectomy).

In addition to standard surgical interventions (abdominal perineal extirpation, abdominal resection, anterior resection of the rectum) surgical treatment of rectal cancer in our clinic, also includes transanal endoscopic microsurgical (TEM) tumor removal for tumors of distal rectum. In 2007 TEM operation was performed by our department of proctology for the first time in Ukraine.

Presently, there is no medication treatment of polyps or villous adenomas. All of them can be removed only by colonoscopy or surgical operation. There are the most common methods of polyps and villous adenomas treatment.

Pilonidal sinus is disease that is based on primary openings, which exist in the midline of the cleft between the buttocks (these openings are the ends of fistulas, which begin from coccyx apex).

Algorithms of treatment, developed by our team of doctors, in our department for UC (ulcerative colitis) have significantly reduced the number of surgical interventions for UC, as well as achieve a more frequent stable remission in this group of patients. Surgical treatment (colproctectomy) for UC is performed with the failure of conservative treatment, prescribed by proctologist, or in case of development of complications.

The use of modern endoscopic equipment in our clinic allows us to carry out an early diagnosis of non-specific intestinal diseases, to differentiate between Crohn's disease and UC, and to establish an exact diagnosis. This significantly affects the outcome of treating for patients with Crohn's disease, when it is very important to determine the area and degree of lesion in intestinal mucosa for the purpose of baseline therapy.

In the department of Proctology of Kiev Regional Hospital, we developed and patented original schemes of treatment for functional disorders of the large intestine (constipation, diarrhea, dysbiosis, etc.) with use of hydro colon therapy.

As our long-term experience shows, very often, nonspecific inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) may be hidden under the diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome. The use of modern endoscopic equipment in our clinic allows for an early diagnosis of IBS and IBD, and to establish an accurate diagnosis.
